How to Choose the Right Openwell Submersible Pump
Selecting an openwell pump depends on your well depth, vertical lift distance to fields/tanks, delivery pipe diameter, and power supply stability:
Total Head & Well Depth
- Calculate the vertical depth from pump installation level to the highest point of water discharge.
- For heads up to 18m, Karha 50 (0.5 HP) or Karha 100 (1.0 HP) is ideal.
- For deeper wells and higher lift reaching up to 38m, choose Karha 151 V7 (1.5 HP).
Discharge Volume (LPH)
- Flood irrigation and multi-acre agricultural fields require 8,000 to 11,000+ LPH (Karha 150 & 151).
- Drip lines, sprinkler zones, and domestic sumps operate efficiently on 4,000 to 6,000 LPH (Karha 50 & 100).
Rural Voltage Band (180V–240V)
- All DHAN LAKSHMI openwell pumps are wound with high-grade poly-wrapped copper wire designed to operate safely down to 180V during rural drops.

Submerged Installation & Foundation
- Install resting horizontally or vertically on a solid masonry bed or suspended 1–2 feet above the well bottom to avoid drawing silt.
- Water-lubricated carbon thrust bearings require complete water immersion before starting.
Pipe Diameter & Flow Friction
- Karha 50 and 100 use 25mm (1") outlets; Karha 150 and 151 use 38mm (1.5") outlets for minimum frictional head loss.
- Use heavy-duty HDPE or GI column piping with secure support clamps.
